HMRC Self Assessment Tax Return Login

It is a requirement to file a tax return with HMRC even if an individual considers that they do not owe anything to HMRC. Even if a return is late by one day, the tax return deadline has been missed and penalties are incurred.

Penalties for late filing of Self -Assessment Tax return

  1. Initial penalty – £100 for filing even a day late 
  2. More than 3 months late – For every day after the three month deadline the fee is £10 per day for a maximum 90 days
  3. More than 6 months late – 5% of the liability to tax (or £300 if greater)
  4. More than 12 months late – An additional 5% of the liability to tax (or £300 if greater)
